Community Service. Team Work. Self-esteem. Leadership.

Leadership Development Programme

Leadership development is woven into all programming at the Amos Youth Centre.

In particular, the weekly Leadership & Community Service Club promotes regular skills development and service in our communities.

The club is designed for youth  leaders to initiate environmental awareness campaigns, engage  in community clean up and advocate for community needs. This approach has proven effective in teaching youth leaders the value of ownership and community led projects that promote environmental sustainability.

The girls and boys give back through trash collection, cleaning the local clinic, spending time at the local orphanage, helping the elderly, and more.

Annual Lifeskill & Leadership Camp

The annual Lifeskill & Leadership Camp focuses on leadership skills and team building. In August 2015, we held our first day camp thanks to a partnership with Global Camps Africa which provided the opportunity for staff and youth leaders to be trained as camp counselors and for over 50 youth to attend a three-day camp focused on life skills, self-esteem building, and leadership development.

Today, the annual camp each August continues to train more youth leaders in essential skills and provide a week of learning and fun for 100+ youth.

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

Some of our young women and men take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. The Duke of Edinburgh International Award Organization offers young people leadership tailored programs that are internationally recognized and teaches these young people to be leaders and also discover their strength and themselves.

So far 20 have taken part in a 6-month training under the Bronze level and were certified in June 2022. They are taught of Physical Strength, Talent and Self-Discovery, and Community Service where they learn about the importance of giving back to their communities.
