Natasha was all smiles on graduation day.

Natasha's journey from a small community in Shikoswe to the forefront of journalism and community service is nothing short of inspiring. Born into a family of six, Natasha's early years were shaped by the challenges faced by her single mother, who stood as an example of strength and resilience. By the age of seven, Natasha discovered the Amos Youth Centre (AYC) and became part of the Young Learners Program.

The holistic support Natasha received from AYC, beginning in the 8th grade and spanning all the way through to the day she received her diploma in Journalism and Public Relations at Evelyn Hone College, allowed her to transcend financial limitations and embrace the path she had always envisioned, the pursuit of a dream that had taken root in her heart since childhood.

Graduating in 2023, Natasha became the first in her family to earn a college diploma and finally break a barrier for her three younger siblings. Natasha’s sister also attended AYC and is now studying midwifery, inspired by the determination of her sister. Natasha’s success resonates not just in her academic achievements, but in the spirit of triumph against adversity, a testament to the resilience ingrained in her upbringing and in the empowerment and self-esteem building she received at AYC’s Learning & Leadership Centre.

Natasha, while on the hunt for a job, has not let her dreams merely rest on the laurels of her academic accomplishments. Drawing from the support and lessons instilled by AYC, Natasha has found a way to continue to give back to her community now through AYC’s Nutrition Program, a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of her journey and the shared struggles of her past. The Nutrition Program always gave Natasha the hope of never studying on an empty stomach and the daily meal served was often her only meaningful meal most days.

Striving for Excellence

Natasha's involvement in volunteer work mirrors her commitment to making a positive impact beyond her personal achievements. In her journey as a young journalist, Natasha had a three-month internship in 2022 as a reporter and newscaster for Hope Channel Zambia.

One of Natasha's most cherished memories at AYC revolves around a One Up for Girl Power activity and the annual Life Skill & Leadership Camp. One Up for Girl Power is a club dedicated to girls’ agency and empowerment while the annual camp is dedicated to building the leadership skills of every student who attends the Learning & Leadership Centre. These experiences not only shaped her world view, but also fueled her passion for empowering others, especially young women, to dream big and overcome obstacles. Natasha has become a symbol of girl power, embodying the idea that dreams, no matter how humble the beginnings, can flourish into reality through determination and resilience.

Natasha enjoyed her internship promoting tourism in Zambia.

But Natasha's story doesn't end with her personal success – it extends to the greater good of her community and country. While looking for formal employment, she interned with the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Tourism to actively promote tourism in Zambia. Utilizing her skills as a journalist, she shed light on the rich cultural tapestry and natural beauty of her homeland. Through her storytelling, Natasha not only contributed to the growth of the tourism sector, but also showcased Zambia's potential on the global stage.

Natasha's journey is a testament to the transformative power of education, resilience, and community support. As she continues to chase her dreams, she remains an inspiration for those who dare to dream against all odds, proving that success is not only measured by personal achievements, but by the positive impact one can make in the lives of others.
